All about me...
I was born in Stamford, Connecticut but was raised in the small farming town of Ellington. After my high school graduation in 1984, and my freshman year of a college soccer career at the University of Connecticut (with some studying too), I still didn't know "what I wanted to be." My dad was a Marine aviator...so there was always this pit in my stomach feeling of NEEDING to serve, and in the most challenging service. After my freshman season at UCONN, I succumbed to my nagging desire of wanting to know if I could become a enlisted Marine, born at Parris Island, SC. Parris Island was all it took...I loved it! My next three years at UCONN were spent fulfilling my reserve commitment and working toward my next passion of leading Marines. I graduated college in 1988 and was commissioned a 2ndLt that same year.
Fast forward 20+ years, 11 years as a Marine Military Police Officer, and a move to Washington, DC where I started a career as a government civilian. I soon found myself being asked to find a retirement gift for my active duty boss. I found a great plaque with recessed ribbons and knew right away that was a gift nobody else would have. Upon receipt of this gift, it was immediately obvious no veteran (or anyone else for that matter) had conducted any quality control...the plaque contained misspellings and there were Army insignia on the Marine ribbons. What a shame I thought....and immediately knew I could offer these plaques, crafted perfectly. Swanson Laser Engraving was born and has grown into anything you need engraved, customized, or created.
